John J. Porta
John J. Porta is a Principal in the Long Island office of Jackson Lewis P.C.
He received his Undergraduate degree from Fordham University and his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School. John is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.
John has been involved in matters pending before federal and state courts and administrative agencies covering the gamut of employment-related matters from discrimination and workplace harassment to wage/hour disputes. His principal focus is the defense of class and collective action lawsuits under federal and state wage-and-hour laws.
As a result of John’s litigation experience, he routinely advises clients on restructuring strategies and the management of litigation risks associated with termination and restructuring, along with managing plant closing/mass layoff advance notification requirements. He also has an active advice and counseling practice providing advice to clients on all aspects of the employment relationship including disability and leave management, wage and hour, development of personnel policies and separation/termination issues. John regularly counsels and represents employers in a range of industries including retail, commercial real estate, financial services and not-for-profits.
John has conducted hundreds of management training seminars on topics including litigation avoidance; EEO; effective management interviewing, documentation and evaluation skills; and, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the FMLA.
